Chair

About the role

Edinburgh

Named after the second runway at Edinburgh Airport, Crosswind has been set up to deliver one of the most exciting infrastructure developments Edinburgh has seen. Chief Executive John Watson is quoted as saying:

“There is a really great opportunity in the West of Edinburgh to build infrastructure from which future generations will benefit. We will be investing significantly in the land opened up by the closure of the second runway and will work with other developers in the area to promote the wider opportunity we believe exists”

The Crosswind project is therefore one of the most exciting commercial property development opportunities in Scotland and as it begins to gather momentum we would like to appoint a Non Executive Chair to the Board.

This will be a trusted, experienced and politically astute person who will lead and guide the Crosswind Board, which is now in place. They will need to be an influential and independent individual who has knowledge relating to this sector. If they have experience in the planning process then this would be advantageous. There is a real chance to help leave a wonderful legacy here.

The Chair will therefore have:

  • A demonstrable track record of success at Board level in Government/Public Service or UK industry in a comparably complex organisation, ideally at both an, Executive and Non Executive level;
  • The ability to spend a specific amount of time, probably up to 20 days per year, in the business;
  • An excellent understanding of best practice corporate governance, board dynamics, board effectiveness and strong business ethics;
  • The ability to combine effective challenge and support and build supportive relationships across the Board, with shareholders and Crosswind’s wider stakeholder base;
  • A trusted, politically astute and influential individual with a well respected history. Knowledge of planning and of government machinery and how it works will be important;
  • Independence, integrity and effective communication skills. Will uphold the highest of ethical standards and probity.

This position will be remunerated.
